How do dog bite attacks impact you?

On Behalf of | Nov 24, 2019 | Firm News

There are many dog owners in Ohio, and even more dogs than that. Unfortunately, this means that you may someday end up in a situation where you are a victim of a dog bite attack. In these scenarios, it is important to know how an attack may affect you in the short and long term.

First are the physical affects. These are the ones most commonly thought of when considering the potential impact of dog bites. A dog bite can cause massive amounts of damage not only due to the power of their jaw, but also because they tend to lock in on a victim after making contact. They may also shake their heads, which can tear soft tissue and muscle easily, resulting in disfigurement, scarring, and even the loss of some body parts.

Mentally, the trauma of a bite attack can be enormous. Victims often find themselves suffering from recurring nightmares and symptoms similar to those who suffer from post traumatic stress disorder, such as being triggered by the sound of a dog barking. The mental impact can differ as much as the physical impact, but some victims end up requiring years of therapy in order to regain some semblance of control over their lives. In some cases, permanent phobias may be developed. Plenty of dog bite victims end up having an aversion to dogs that never fully goes away.
