Different types of distracted driving lead to car accidents

Distracted driving is a serious danger on our roadways and is a serious problem that can cause car accidents resulting in injuries or worse to victims. There are different types of distracted driving drivers should be aware of so they can avoid them and help keep everyone safe on the roadways.

It is important for victims of motor vehicle accidents to note that there are legal remedies available to them when they have been injured in a car accident by a distracted driver or driver who has been otherwise negligent. A personal injury claim for damages following a car accident can help car accident victims recover compensation for their physical, financial and emotional injuries including medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering damages.

There are three categories of distracted driving with texting while driving being considered the most dangerous form of distracted driving because it combines all three types of distracted driving which include cognitive distraction, visual distraction and manual distraction. All are dangerous.

Cognitive distracted driving removes the driver's focus from driving and can include using a cell phone, talking with passengers or even day dreaming. Visual distraction involves removing the driver's eyes from the roadway and can also include cell phone use or adjusting a radio or navigation device while driving. Manual distraction involves removing the driver's hands from the steering wheel and can include texting or accessing the internet while driving; eating; grooming and other activities as well.

All forms of distracted driving are dangerous and should be avoided and may create liability for the distracted driver to injured victims. When a distracted driver has caused a car accident, it is important they are held accountable and may be responsible for the damages suffered by the victims.
