What are some common causes of commercial vehicle accidents?

On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2017 | Firm News, motor vehicle accidents

Of all the different types of motor vehicle accidents that occur on the roads and highways of Ohio, there are perhaps none more dangerous than accidents that involve commercial vehicles such as semi-trucks. These vehicles are significantly larger than passenger vehicles, and often they are transporting hazardous cargo as well. What are some of the common causes of accidents involving commercial vehicles?

Well, unfortunately, despite all of the regulations that truck drivers must abide by, many truck accidents are caused by the negligence or recklessness of those drivers. Commercial vehicles are much more difficult to operate than passenger vehicles, and sometimes truck drivers have not had enough training to handle the vehicles they are driving. In other cases, truck drivers may actively violate trucking regulations. These willful violations can include driving the vehicles beyond the set limits for driving time, or sometimes engaging in something as reckless as drunk driving.

In some cases, it isn’t just the truck driver at fault – it is the company the truck driver works for as well. This occurs when the truck itself is overloaded or improperly loaded, which can cause the vehicle to tip over or cause an inability for the truck to stop as it should.

There are many different causes of commercial vehicle accidents in Ohio. The victims of these types of accidents will need to investigate their legal options in order to attempt to pursue financial compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. If the victims can prove negligence or recklessness, they may be successful.
